So when we got the airport... sitting in the waiting area, we realized we weren't going to Ko Samui. Let's take a step back. Ko Samui is in the province of Surat Thani and when booking the flight, the destination I choose was Surat Thani area; not realizing that Surat Thani was in fact an actual city. It is on the mainland part of Thailand amd Ko Samui is on an island (Ko means island - you'll hear that word alot). There is an airport in Ko Samui. So this detour was an experience to remember.
After we knew where we were headed and too late to turn back we had to figure out how to get to Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ngan. It was by bus (1.5 hrs) and then ferry (2 hrs). We decided to stay in Surat Thani as it was night and the night ferry was too cheap ($2.50 compared to $10) and 6 hours. Im thinking robbery trap.
The hotel we checked into was hilarious. I turned on the water and it came out of the wall on to the floor. It eventually got to the drain. thank you Tara for the idea about using our own sheets - we used them. You get what you pay for.
They did have a night market and I saw an elephant hanging out in the middle of the intersection kinda of like a dog keeping watch. Of course we forgot our camera. It was a night market that was more for the town than the tourists. We were the minority and the only ones. Chelsea found a couple pairs of shoes for $6. It ended quite early compared to Bangkok. (10pm vs 1am)
The trip to Koh Pha Ngan left early - we decided to skip Ko Samui and hit it on our way back.
